Green Bin Plans
The City of London has plans to begin a Green Bin program in 2022. A Green bin program requires energy to operate: trucks to pick up waste, a processor to transform it into dirt or energy, so save GHG emissions by composting at home!

Community Composting
Do you like to buy farm fresh produce?
Check out the social enterprise Urban Roots. While you are there, drop off your compost and they will use it to amend the soil on their farm.

Where To Buy A Composter
The City of London subsidizes the cost of composters. They are available at any of the Enviro Depot locations. Cost is $35 for the model of your choice. They even have the rolling version and a new anaerobic digester.

Instruction Guide: How To Compost
Composting is all about creating a balance between green and brown, or wet and dry. When you add kitchen scraps (wet/green) you need to also add some dry/brown items to balance it. Shredding leaves in the fall and keeping them in a container until you need them is a great balancer.

Importance Of Sequestering Carbon
The Drawdown project notes that soil has a huge potential to absorb carbon. A great way to do this is to add compost to your soil to make it richer. Not only does this help the climate, but helps your plants deal with the effects of climate change such as drought and heavy rains.

Rolling Composter
Great for backyards where the composter will sit on a hard surface. Circular in shape, they are easy to shovel into. Ideally, you would have two - one will “cook” while you fill the other.
-
Digester
This is anaerobic which means it does not need oxygen to decompose. Basically, the waste turns to sludge and is absorbed by the ground. No need to empty for many years.
-
Traditional composter
Great for gardeners who need a larger capacity composter. This style benefits from regular “turning” in order to add oxygen; as well as balancing of ‘green’ and ‘brown’ items.
