Are you looking for ways to increase your faith community’s involvement in supporting a healthy natural environment? Many faith communities have issued statements that support greater action to address the climate crisis, but how do you translate that into local action? We are here to help.

Climate Action London has re-established a chapter of Greening Sacred Spaces. Greening Sacred Spaces offers education and practical solutions since 2000 to about 800 faith communities annually, from 20 different spiritual traditions, to help reduce each faith community's environmental footprint. Underlying this initiative is a belief that galvanizing faith groups to be neighbourhood sustainability role models is crucial for a greener, healthier, more resilient Canada.

Inspiration

No one needs to walk this path alone. Are you wondering what other faith communities are doing to engage in climate action? Join the London Chapter of Greening Sacred Spaces and join a supportive community who share their ideas and successes, and collaborate on community projects.

Monthly meetings on the 21st (currently via zoom) cover topics of interest to the group. Special events are planned for the Spring/Fall Equinoxes and the Summer/Winter Solstices.

Past Events

  • Winter Solstice 2021

Throughout time, humans have honoured their connection to nature with celebrations of the changing of the seasons. Greening Sacred Spaces London celebrated the Winter Solstice on Tuesday December 21st with an evening of song, story and drumming as we took this opportunity to reflect on our connections to nature and the gifts we receive from times of darkness and light.

  • Feeding the Multitude

On November 21, 2021 Jeremy Horrell from Urban Roots and Randy Dockervoort from Siloam United Church inspired us with their urban gardening project.

In 2021, their garden produced over 3,000 lbs of food that was donated to organizations like the Glen Cairn Resource Centre.

A key success factor was the partnership between an organization that had surplus land, and one with knowledge and skills who was looking for land .

  • Fall Equinox 2021

About fifty Londoners came together on Tuesday September 21, 2021 to celebrate the Fall Equinox by sharing in a water ceremony led by Tracey Whiteye. We experienced how water is an integral part of our lives: from our birth to every day needs, we are made mostly of water. We were reminded that we need to cherish clean water to ensure our own health.
