Greening Sacred Spaces (London)

MISSION - To Inspire, Educate, and Engage with faith communities in London to embrace London's Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP) in their communities and places of worship.

Our Values

  • Spirituality / Faith

A set of beliefs that guide members of faith communities in our commitment to caring for one another, the Earth and all living beings.

  • Connections

The inter-connected relations we have to one another as diverse members of GSS (London), and connections to the land we live on and all living beings.

  • Reconciliation

Establishing and maintaining mutually respectful relations with all Indigenous communities who live in and near London, including the Chippewas of the Thames, Oneida and Munsee Delaware First Nations.

  • Social and Ecological Justice

To have ecological justice, the well-being of a thriving planet, we need social justice, the well-being of all people.

Diversity

Capacity building through diversity

“No matter how carefully [humans have] sought to foster material prosperity and self-sufficiency, it is now clear that . . . . [t]the face of God on the world has been distorted; the integrity of natural life has been fragmented. Yet, it is precisely in this shattered world that we are called to discern the caring nature of the Creator and discover the sacramental nature of creation. . ..The aim is to induce personal and societal transformation in making choices that respect creation as sacrament. Such transformation is only possible through divine grace, the energy of the Holy Spirit, the creative and motivating force for everyone and everything.”

- John Chryssavgis, Creation as Sacrament: Reflections on Ecology and Spirituality (New York: Bloomsbury Publishing, 2019), 1, 2.

Land Acknowledgement

We are located on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Attawandaron peoples, on lands connected with the London Township and Sombra Treaties of 1796 and the Dish with One Spoon Covenant Wampum. This land continues to be home to diverse Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) whom we recognize as contemporary stewards of the land and vital contributors of our society.
