We Need More Talk

What captures our attention and our imagination, will lead us to solutions that we may not yet see. Talking to your family and friends about what you are doing will inspire them to act.

What Is One Thing You Can Do?

Make the climate crisis feel more like an emergency. Talk about it EVERYDAY.

What are you passionate about? Find something you are inspired by and start talking. Talk on social media, talk with your family, friends and politicians. Consider expanding your reach, comment on other people’s posts, engage the wider community and then the politicians. You will be part of the wave of change that will make a difference. Everyone has something they can do.

  • Social Media

The most common sentiment is that people want to take action on climate change, but don’t know what to do.

Comment on social media how your actions help the climate situation. Share things like how you are planting more native plants, how you are walking more, or how you eat meat-free recipes. Your friends and family are watching and will be inspired!

  • Make It an Election Issue

Usually, the government only hears from businesses and industries who often have different agendas. When candidates come knocking at your door, or solicit feedback, make climate action at the top of your list. Let them know that your support depends on their position on climate action. Then once elected, remind them about how important climate action is to you.

  • Participate In Climate Events

Over 2,000 Londoners marched in the Global Climate Strike in Sept 2019. If all of those participants engaged in climate action, we would see London transform.

Participating in webinars and townhalls gives you a deeper understanding of both the issues and the solutions available in a larger context.

Become a member of an organization like Climate Action London and learn of upcoming events in London.

  • Write To Politicians

Politicians respond to public pressure. Consider writing to politicians to thank them when they make good climate decisions. Consider writing to politicians to encourage them to support climate-friendly initiatives. Don’t be afraid that you ‘don’t know enough’ about an issue. Letters from the heart that express your wishes are meaningful.

Tag them on social media posts on topics that are meaningful to you.

Community Climate Leaders

We can’t just leave climate action to politicians. We need all leaders to be making decisions with a climate lens.

When anyone is elected into a position of leadership, we need to ask them their ideas about how they can move climate action forward in their leadership role.

School board trustees, neighborhood associations, community groups boards and councils all make decisions about where funds are focused. We need to pay attention to the allocation of these resources because every decision we make has a climate impact, either adding or reducing carbon emissions.
